Job Title
Semiconductor Design Engineer
Role Summary
As a Hardware Architect within Teradyne's Hardware Engineering team, you will develop high-speed serial device automated test equipment products. You will work across multi-site teams including systems, hardware, lab design, and software to define architectures, prototype, integrate, and validate test solutions.
Experience Level
Senior-level — technical lead responsibilities; years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with customers, marketing, and systems engineering to define product requirements and architectures.
- Plan and execute prototyping and characterization experiments for high-speed serial devices.
- Lead project teams, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate cross-functional development.
- Work with hardware, lab design, and software teams to document and implement test products, including FPGA and PCB integration.
- Perform hands-on product integration, verification testing, and debugging in the lab.
- Provide technical customer support for released products as required.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Expertise in PHY and link layers of high-speed serial protocols (examples: MIPI C/D-PHY, DisplayPort, PCIe, 10/100/400GE).
- Experience with products operating at link rates >10 Gbps and with automated test equipment (ATE), semiconductor device testing, probe cards, and DUT interface boards.
- Strong understanding of high-speed signal integrity and transmission line theory (equalization, CDR, encoding, pre/post-emphasis, impedance matching, eye analysis).
- Experience with RTL coding in Verilog and digital simulation/verification.
- Deep knowledge of FPGA high-speed serial transceivers (Xilinx and Intel) and FPGA toolchains (floor-planning, place & route, static timing analysis, internal logic analyzer insertion, bitfile generation).
- PCB design experience (schematic capture, layout, lab validation).
- Proficiency in a scripting language (Python, TCL, Perl) and familiarity with revision control and CI tools (Git/ClearCase/SVN, JIRA, continuous integration).
- Familiarity with lab test equipment: oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, BERT, AWG, VNA.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with CMOS image sensors.
- Experience with SystemVerilog, UVM, VHDL, or C.
- Low-noise analog circuit design experience.
- Experience with technologies such as AXI, DDRx, SERDES, USB, I2C, SPI, PLL, HBM, MIPI, PRBS.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a top university or engineering institution (explicitly stated in the source).
