Safety Engineer
Role Summary
This role is part of the Functional Safety Competence Center and contributes to the development of safety-compliant semiconductor products. The engineer defines, analyzes, and validates functional and technical safety concepts and architectures for IP, SoC and embedded software.
The position collaborates with systems, hardware, software and implementation teams to produce certifiable solutions and to maintain a functional-safety compliant development process.
Experience Level
Senior - 7β15 years of semiconductor product development experience with exposure to functional safety.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include safety concept definition, analysis, verification support and preparation for assessment and certification.
- Define and develop functional and technical safety concepts based on product architecture and intended functionality.
- Capture and manage safety requirements using requirements-management tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent implementation of safety concepts.
- Review and develop IP, SoC and software safety work products compliant with ISO 26262 or IEC 61508.
- Perform safety analyses at IP and product levels (FTA, DFA, FMEDA).
- Support definition and review of safety verification and validation strategies.
- Perform safety management tasks at IP, SoC, software and system levels.
- Report on compliance status, identify gaps and propose mitigation actions.
- Prepare products for formal assessment and certification and contribute to confirmation measures and internal reviews.
- Support customers in integration and application of safety products, including tailored solutions where required.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Must-have: 7β15 years of semiconductor product development experience with exposure to functional safety.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures applied to automotive or industrial safety domains.
- Strong understanding of IP and SoC level safety mechanisms.
- Understanding of safety standards (ISO 26262 or IEC 61508) and associated development lifecycles and work products.
- Experience with safety analysis techniques such as FTA, DFA and FMEDA and related tools (for example Medini).
- Hands-on experience in at least two safety-compliant product developments creating Functional Safety Concept and Technical Safety Concept.
- Experience in safety audits, assessments and certification activities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and global teams.
- Nice-to-have: Experience at Tier 1/Tier 2 automotive suppliers; broad exposure to IP design, verification, DFT, implementation; familiarity with requirements tools such as ELM7; familiarity with ISO 26262 Part 6 and embedded software development.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent). The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of the degree.
