RTL2GDS Application Engineering, Senior Staff
Role Summary
Senior application engineer working with customers to deliver RTL-to-GDSII implementation solutions using Synopsys digital EDA tools. The role sits in a UK-based Technical Sales Group and partners with Sales, R&D, and global engineering teams to resolve implementation issues, influence product roadmaps, and accelerate tool adoption.
Primary mission: provide technical pre-sales and post-sales support for synthesis and place-and-route flows, help customers meet timing, power, and area goals, and translate field requirements into product improvements.
Experience Level
Senior level. Requires approximately 6+ years of hands-on experience in digital implementation and RTL-to-GDSII flows.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include direct customer technical engagement, solution architecture, and collaboration with internal teams.
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support for synthesis and RTL-to-GDSII implementation (DC NXT, Fusion Compiler or equivalents).
- Analyze customer design objectives, constraints, and bottlenecks; architect solutions that fit customer flows and schedules.
- Partner with Sales to identify and qualify technical opportunities and convert technical wins into account growth.
- Escalate field issues to R&D, influence product roadmaps, and drive feature development based on customer needs.
- Deliver technical presentations, product overviews, and hands-on training tailored to customer teams.
- Troubleshoot complex timing, power, and area optimization problems in customer environments.
- Travel to customer sites and internal offices across the UK and Europe as required to support critical engagements.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for immediate success in the role.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in digital design implementation, including RTL-to-GDSII flows for SoC or IP block designs.
- Strong working knowledge of synthesis, timing constraints, and design optimization techniques in production environments.
- Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex technical problems within customer constraints and methodologies.
- Fluent English (written and spoken) for multi-country customer interaction.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to customer sites and internal offices across the UK and Europe.
- Customer-facing communication skills; able to present to both engineering teams and senior technical stakeholders.
Nice-to-have:
- Direct experience with Synopsys DC NXT, Fusion Compiler, or equivalent synthesis/place-and-route platforms.
- Prior experience supporting advanced-node SoC or IP tapeout projects.
