RF Systems Engineer
QualcommJob Title
RF Systems Engineer
Role Summary
Design and validate RF system architectures, radio transceiver specifications, and SW/FW algorithms for Qualcomm modem transceiver systems. Work within the Modem RF Systems team and collaborate with RFIC, ASIC, software, and applications engineering teams to bring up system-level features and support chipset HW/SW/firmware integration.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical candidates have roughly 3β7 years of relevant industry experience; minimum experience requirements vary by degree (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop IC specifications and system-level algorithms in coordination with ASIC and system engineers.
- Bring up complex system-level features and validate functionality on target platforms.
- Analyze radio/transceiver performance and system interactions with RFIC and software teams.
- Perform modeling and analysis using spreadsheets, MATLAB, and similar tools to support chip design and verification.
- Support applications engineering to diagnose and resolve RF system issues on customer platforms.
- Document results, write technical reports, and present findings to technical audiences.
- Contribute to chipset HW/SW/firmware integration and cross-team coordination.
Requirements
Must-have and desirable skills:
- Must-have: Practical experience with RF system design or transceiver architectures and system-level feature bring-up.
- Must-have: Programming experience in C, C++, and/or Python; ability to develop analysis scripts and automation.
- Must-have: Experience with system-level analysis and modeling using MATLAB or equivalent tools.
- Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and effective written and verbal communication.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of cellular radio / 3GPP standards (LTE, 5G NR FR1/FR2), experience automating mobile test equipment, or experience with ADS / HFSS simulations.
- Nice-to-have: Background in PA/synthesizer design, RF coexistence, mmWave communications, or related RF subsystems.
- Nice-to-have: Prior technical leadership experience and industry experience in wireless, semiconductor, or embedded software.
Education Requirements
One of the following is required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field plus 4+ years of relevant work experience; OR Master's degree in the same fields plus 3+ years of relevant work experience; OR PhD in the same fields plus 2+ years of relevant work experience. Preferred qualifications mention Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields. The posting references related work experience as an acceptable component of qualifications.
