RF System Modeling Engineer
Nordic SemiconductorJob Title
RF System Modeling Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for electromagnetic (EM) and EMI simulation and analysis for Bluetooth radio products in the BU Short-Range - BLE Radio Development team. Work spans chip, package and PCB levels to inform IC, package, PCB layout and system design decisions and ensure robust performance and EMI/EMC compliance throughout product development.
Experience Level
Mid-level - Experienced engineer. The role expects roughly 5+ years of relevant experience in RF/microwave engineering, EM simulation, or EMI/EMC analysis.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include leading simulation work, proposing mitigations, and supporting test correlation.
- Perform advanced EM simulations at chip and PCB levels using industry tools (e.g., Ansys HFSS, Cadence Sigrity, CST, Keysight RFPro).
- Assess and optimize chip- and package-level power distribution networks (PDNs) for noise, integrity, and EMI compliance.
- Simulate and analyze EMI radiation and assess compliance with international standards.
- Collaborate with IC designers, PCB layout engineers, and system architects to provide EM/EMI guidance during development.
- Propose and validate mitigation strategies for EMI/EMC issues at layout and circuit-design levels.
- Prepare and document simulation results, analysis reports, and design recommendations.
- Drive development of EM simulation methods, EMI/EMC standards, and related EDA tool flows.
- Support laboratory EMI/EMC testing and debugging; correlate measurements with simulations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of practical expectations.
- 5+ years of experience in RF/microwave engineering, EM simulations, or EMI/EMC analysis.
- Proven expertise with EM simulation software such as Ansys HFSS, CST Studio Suite, Cadence Sigrity, or Keysight RFPro.
- Familiarity with SPICE-based simulation tools for circuit-level analysis.
- Strong knowledge of PDNs, grounding, decoupling, and related chip/PCB design practices.
- Solid understanding of EMI/EMC theory, measurement techniques, and compliance processes.
- Ability to collaborate across IC, package, PCB and system teams and communicate simulation findings clearly.
- Experience correlating simulations with laboratory EMI/EMC measurements and supporting debug activities.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience developing EM/EMI methodologies or extending EDA tool capabilities.
- Prior work on wireless radio ICs or Bluetooth radio systems.
Education Requirements
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related technical field.
