Job Title
RF Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver PLL and RF analog IP for wireless silicon in a cross-functional silicon design team based in Munich. The role focuses on circuit-level solutions, integration with system and digital teams, and collaboration with technology and foundry partners to enable power-efficient, high-performance wireless chips.
This is a hands-on engineering role with opportunity to influence architecture, verification, and silicon bring-up across multiple product generations.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Specific years of experience are not stated; role requires proven RF circuit design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include circuit design, integration, verification, and silicon characterization for RF PLL and related analog blocks.
- Design PLLs, oscillators, frequency dividers, phase detectors, biasing blocks, and local oscillator chains for wireless ICs.
- Translate system and product requirements into IC block specifications working with system architects and platform teams.
- Collaborate with digital design, layout, system engineering, and integration teams to deliver IP and verify top-level functionality and performance.
- Work with process and technology teams and foundries on process evaluation and device selection.
- Support silicon bring-up: characterize, debug, and optimize RF performance at chip and system level together with RF test engineers.
- Perform EM modeling and simulation to validate designs and interactions on chip and package.
Requirements
Minimal and preferred technical qualifications for candidates.
-
Must-have
- Profound experience in RF circuit design techniques.
- Experience using Cadence design tools.
- EM modelling and simulation skills.
- Proficiency in English.
-
Nice-to-have
- Experience with wireless PLL architectures in CMOS and translating system KPIs to circuit requirements.
- Deep knowledge of low-noise, broadband, power-efficient PLLs and frequency-conversion blocks.
- Experience optimizing RF performance via trimming, calibration, and crosstalk mitigation.
- Understanding of RF device modeling, packaging effects, integrated inductors/coils, supply isolation, and HF ESD structures.
- Hands-on experience in high-frequency silicon characterization and on-system debugging.
Education Requirements
MSEE or PhD is required, or equivalent practical experience.
