Job Title

RF Application Engineer - Design

Role Summary

The RF Application Engineer will support customers designing RF and mmWave integrated circuits in GLOBALFOUNDRIES' RF SiGe and RFSOI technologies. The role sits within the RF Application Engineering / Design Enablement team and focuses on design enablement, customer technical support, debugging design kits, and delivering training.

Primary mission: accelerate customer designs by resolving tool/process issues, validating design kits, and communicating customer requirements into internal design enablement and technology teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” requires approximately 5+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include technical support, design-kit validation, and customer enablement.

  • Provide direct technical support to customers designing RF/mmWave ICs (e.g., LNA, PA, switches).
  • Use and support industry-standard RFIC simulation and EM tools (Keysight ADS, Cadence Spectre/RF, Momentum, EMX, etc.).
  • Perform design checks, parasitic extraction, and verification using DRC/LVS/PEX flows (Cadence, Mentor, Synopsys).
  • Diagnose and document reported design-kit bugs; coordinate fixes and enhancements with design-kit development teams.
  • Translate customer feedback into actionable requirements for Design Enablement and Technology teams.
  • Prepare and deliver design-kit and process/technology trainings to customers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items follow.

  • Minimum ~5 years experience in RF, mmWave, or analog IC design with hands-on design/debug work.
  • Practical experience with RFIC simulation and EM tools (e.g., Keysight ADS, Spectre/RF, Momentum, EMX).
  • Experience with parasitic extraction and verification tools and flows (Cadence, Mentor, Synopsys DRC/LVS/PEX).
  • Strong fundamentals in device figures of merit (ft, fmax, gm, nfmin, Q, SRF) for active and passive devices.
  • Good debugging, documentation, and verbal/written communication skills; English fluency required.
  • Willingness to travel up to ~10%.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with semiconductor foundry PDKs, especially RF process flows.
  • Program or project management experience.

Education Requirements

B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering / Electronics / RF (including RF GaN) or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
