R&D Staff Engineer, Software

Role Summary

Design, develop, and deliver firmware and software for ultra-high-performance datacenter-scale products. Work in a small, in-person interdisciplinary engineering team responsible for end-to-end product development from bring-up through production support.

Experience Level

Senior - requires 8+ years of relevant engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver firmware and software across the stack; participate in full product lifecycle.

• Design and implement firmware, device drivers, microcode, and control software (ZephyrOS/OpenBMC, embedded Linux/Yocto, C/C++).
• Lead silicon, chip, board, and system bring-up; debug low-level and system-level issues.
• Develop and maintain boot and platform security components (Secure Boot, u-boot, Secure Root of Trust) and integrate with platform architectures.
• Implement and validate hardware interfaces and buses (I2C, PMBus, AVSbus, MDIO, PCIe, SPI, USB, SERDES) and networking/NIC interactions.
• Drive system-level validation, testing, automation, and use of debugging tools.
• Support customer trials and field issue resolution; ensure product sustainability in production.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, manufacturing, support, compliance, and product groups.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

• 8+ years building software/firmware for large-scale multi-processor architectures (x86, ARM) across low-level firmware to rack management software.
• Strong C and C++ development experience.
• Experience with Linux/Yocto, OpenBMC, and/or ZephyrOS.
• Proven driver development and low-level silicon debugging skills.
• Familiarity with management and telemetry standards (Redfish, MCTP, PLDM, SPDM).
• Experience with secure boot and platform security mechanisms.
• Ability to lead bring-up, validation, and automation activities.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience mentoring or technically leading small teams.
• Deep datacenter networking, switching, and NIC architecture knowledge.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering required and 8+ years of related experience as stated in the posting.
