R&D - Senior Firmware Engineer
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
R&D - Senior Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Senior embedded firmware engineer responsible for designing, developing, and validating firmware for UWB/NB modem, ranging, and radar subsystems. Works with architecture, DSP, RF, and validation teams to deliver robust modem and RF control software and perform system-level bring-up and debugging.
Experience Level
Senior; typically 4β8 years of relevant embedded firmware experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include firmware development across modem, DSP, and RF domains and integration/validation on silicon and test platforms.
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for UWB/NB modem, ranging, and radar subsystems.
- Implement HAL, device drivers, middleware, and system software for modem and RF control.
- Integrate and validate baseband, DSP, and RF components on silicon, FPGA, and simulators.
- Troubleshoot complex system-level issues spanning firmware, DSP, and modem domains.
- Collaborate with architecture, algorithm, DSP, RF, and validation teams to deliver scalable solutions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Preferred domain knowledge listed separately.
- Strong Embedded C programming experience in real-time systems.
- Deep understanding of microcontroller/SoC architectures, interrupts, DMA, timers, and memory management.
- Experience with HAL/driver development and hardware bring-up.
- Familiarity with debugging and validation tools: JTAG, SWD, Trace32, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes.
- Experience with communication protocols and interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, IPC, mailbox mechanisms.
- Experience developing firmware for modem or signal-processing systems; strong system-level debugging and problem-solving skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with modem software and DSP signal-processing concepts for ranging/radar.
- Knowledge of UWB/NB communication systems, ranging, radar, and wireless PHY/MAC concepts (including IEEE 802.15.4z / 802.15.4ab).
- Exposure to automotive, industrial, or IoT wireless products.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics/Communication, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Science (Bachelors/Masters in EC/CS/EEE/IS) as stated in the posting.
