Job Title
R&D Engineer, IC Design 4
Role Summary
Front-end ASIC engineer responsible for architecture definition, RTL logic design, synthesis, and verification of ASIC cores. Work within an IC design team in Austin and collaborate with verification, physical implementation, and system teams to deliver silicon-ready blocks.
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical guidance from the posting: Bachelor's degree plus ~8+ years related experience, or Master's degree plus ~6+ years. Experienced independent contributor expected.
Responsibilities
Contribute to front-end design and verification across the RTL-to-tapeout flow.
- Define architecture and design logic blocks from system requirements.
- Implement RTL (Verilog) and develop synthesis constraints for design blocks.
- Run synthesis and produce synthesis reports; iterate with implementation teams.
- Perform design verification using simulation and formal verification methods.
- Analyze timing from physical implementation tools and drive timing closure.
- Simulate, debug, and troubleshoot RTL and gate-level behavior.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (implementation, DFT, verification) to resolve issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and tool experience for day-to-day work.
- Proven front-end ASIC design and implementation experience, strong Verilog skills.
- Experience with synthesis tools such as Synopsys Design Compiler / DC topo or Cadence RTL Compiler.
- Timing analysis experience using Synopsys PrimeTime and familiarity with liberty (LIB) timing models.
- Experience with formal verification tools (e.g., Synopsys Formality, Cadence Conformal) and simulation-based verification.
- Scripting proficiency (TCL, Perl) to automate flows and analysis.
- Familiarity with static lint tools (Spyglass) and power analysis of RTL/gate-level netlists.
- Knowledge of DFT and scan methodology.
- Version control experience (SVN or Git).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience targeting high-frequency designs and advanced process nodes.
- Prior work in a large-scale ASIC development environment.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (or equivalent technical degree). The posting specifies equivalency: Bachelor's degree with 8+ years related experience, or Master's degree with 6+ years related experience, or equivalent practical experience.
