Job Title
R&D Engineer, Hardware
Role Summary
Senior analog/mixed-signal designer responsible for designing and validating wireline high-speed analog mixed-signal circuitry used in data center connectivity applications. The role sits on an R&D hardware team focused on high-performance serial link SoCs and related hardware.
Main mission: develop circuit architectures, implement and characterize analog IP for high-speed serial links to meet performance, power, and manufacturability targets.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical qualification: Master’s degree plus 6+ years related experience, or PhD plus 3+ years related experience (years guidance provided by employer).
Responsibilities
Principal engineering responsibilities and typical tasks:
- Design and validate high-speed analog/mixed-signal integrated circuits for serial link applications.
- Research and develop novel circuit techniques to maximize speed and performance while minimizing power and area.
- Define design approaches and circuit parameters; select components and architectures based on specifications and reliability targets.
- Perform electrical analysis, experimental testing, and evaluation of results; create circuit models for package and PCB requirements.
- Develop and execute circuit test plans; characterize and debug analog designs for manufacturability.
- Perform layout and custom design work in a non‑ASIC product environment and use simulation/layout tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, network with external technical contacts, and exercise judgment on complex technical decisions.
- Understand system-level SoC architecture relevant to broadband and data center communication products.
Requirements
Minimum technical skills and experience required; followed by preferred interpersonal traits.
-
Must-have:
- Proven experience in analog circuit design for high-speed applications (GHz-range).
- Deep understanding of CMOS device operating regions and characteristics.
- Familiarity with common CMOS analog topologies and trade-offs (noise, distortion, bandwidth, stability, mismatch, settling).
- Experience with signal processing in analog filters, ADCs/DACs, and feedback-controlled loops.
- Practical experience with simulation tools, custom layout tools, and lab equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.).
- Experience with serial link/ wireline applications (fiber-optic communications, Gigabit Ethernet, enterprise storage, routers) or equivalent high-speed link experience.
-
Nice-to-have:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and management levels.
- Proactive, collaborative approach to technical development and consensus-building.
- Excellent time and task management and interpersonal skills.
Education Requirements
Employer specifies a Master’s degree with 6+ years of related experience or a PhD with 3+ years of related experience. (No specific field of study listed in the posting.)
