Quality and Reliability R&D Lab Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Stress Testing and Reliability (STaR) Lab within Foundry Quality, Reliability, and Labs (FQRL) to develop and manage lab tools, test methodologies, and workflows for reliability characterization of transistors, interconnects, and related devices.

This on-site role at Intel's Ronler Acres campus in Hillsboro, OR focuses on delivering high-quality reliability data, maintaining production-ready lab infrastructure, and enabling qualification milestones for Intel and foundry customers.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Experienced hire). Typically requires several years of hands-on experience in semiconductor device electrical characterization and lab automation.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include operating, improving, and developing lab capabilities to produce reliable experimental data and transfer methods to operations.

  • Develop, qualify, and maintain reliability test tools and measurement systems.
  • Design and validate new stress techniques and test methodologies for devices and interconnects.
  • Drive root-cause investigations and technical problem solving for measurement or tool issues.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to improve data integrity, automation, and lab efficiency.
  • Collaborate with lab operations, industrial engineers, module engineers, and external vendors.
  • Document processes and transfer qualified methods to production operations.
  • Support safety, quality, and operational excellence in lab environments.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform this role.

  • 3+ years experience in semiconductor electrical characterization, device testing, and troubleshooting using parametric analyzers, oscilloscopes, and related equipment.
  • Practical experience applying statistical analysis to experimental data; proficiency with JMP or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with hardware automation and control, preferably using LabVIEW, TestStand, or Python.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to lead improvement projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Experience interacting with external vendors and coordinating technical transfers to operations.
  • Preferred: prior semiconductor foundry or advanced process environment experience; familiarity with device fabrication and packaging process flows; experience leading technical teams and managing resources in a matrixed organization.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. Preferred: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. The posting specifies 3+ years of related experience in addition to the degree requirements.
