Product Test Engineer (up to Staff)
QualcommJob Title
Product Test Engineer (up to Staff)
Role Summary
Qualcomm is seeking a Product Test Engineer to develop semiconductor test programs, design and verify test hardware, perform product characterization and failure analysis, support reliability testing, and drive mass-production yield improvement. The role works within Hardware Engineering and partners with test houses, R&D, manufacturing, quality, and operations to ensure production readiness and product quality.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical background: multiple years of semiconductor test experience; preferred experience ranges from about 5β9 years. The posting also specifies experience-equivalent options tied to degree level (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include test program and hardware development, test execution, data analysis, and cross-functional problem resolution.
- Develop, debug, and maintain semiconductor test programs for new product introduction and mass production.
- Define, design, and verify test hardware such as probe cards, load boards, sockets, and interface boards.
- Develop and optimize test methodologies and test flows to improve coverage and efficiency.
- Perform failure analysis and identify root causes for product, test, and manufacturing issues.
- Execute product characterization across voltage, frequency, temperature, and process corners.
- Support reliability testing: test planning, execution, data analysis, and issue resolution.
- Analyze test data and drive yield improvement through systematic problem solving and cross-functional collaboration.
- Collaborate with test houses, manufacturing partners, R&D, validation, quality, and operations during NPI and production ramp.
- Prepare test reports, characterization results, failure analysis summaries, and yield-improvement recommendations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; separate nice-to-have items follow.
- Hands-on experience operating semiconductor ATE (examples: Advantest 93K, Credence D10/DX, Teradyne UltraFlex).
- Practical experience in test program development, debugging, and production support.
- Solid understanding of semiconductor test methodologies, test flows, and DUT/test interface considerations.
- Experience with failure analysis, product characterization, and yield-improvement activities.
- Proficiency in test data analysis and statistical methods for yield and characterization work.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and clear cross-functional communication.
- Ability to work with external test houses, suppliers, and globally distributed engineering teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience designing and verifying probe cards, load boards, sockets, and test interface hardware.
- Experience supporting reliability qualification and long-term reliability testing.
- Prior experience with mass-production yield monitoring and improvement programs.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools and advanced statistical analysis.
Education Requirements
Degree and equivalent-experience options specified: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. The posting defines equivalent experience thresholds: Bachelor's +4 years of relevant hardware engineering experience; Master's +3 years; PhD +2 years.
