Product Quality & Reliability Engineer
LumilensJob Title
Product Quality & Reliability Engineer
Role Summary
Owner of product reliability and quality engineering for high-speed photonics products. Work with R&D, design, manufacturing, suppliers and contract manufacturers to define and execute qualification plans, drive failure analysis and ensure successful transfer to production.
Work contributes to foundational photonics infrastructure for AI and high-performance computing.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify years, but the role expects hands-on experience in photonics reliability and product qualification.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive reliability execution for photonic components (Silicon Photonics ICs, DFB/CW lasers, optoelectronic SiPs) used in high-speed optical networks.
- Provide early reliability input during product development and support NPI programs through volume production.
- Define and execute qualification and acceptance plans aligned with Telcordia/GR-468, JEDEC, and applicable standards.
- Plan and perform accelerated life testing (ALT), failure analysis, degradation modeling, and root cause investigations to guide design and process improvements.
- Lead supplier qualification, implement supplier quality metrics, and support supplier audits and factory capability assessments.
- Support incoming component validation and develop/maintain Design for Reliability (DfR) methodologies.
- Use predictive modeling and statistical analysis to assess reliability and risk.
- Prepare and present technical reviews, reliability reports, and customer-facing risk assessments.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Proven experience executing reliability programs for photonic components and optical transceivers.
- Strong background in photonics device physics, packaging, and failure mechanisms.
- Demonstrated success supporting NPI and product qualification from concept through volume production.
- Knowledge of GR-468, Telcordia, JEDEC, and relevant military/industry standards.
- Proficiency in reliability modeling and statistical analysis (e.g., Weibull, Arrhenius) and tools such as JMP or Minitab.
- Hands-on experience with reliability test systems (HTOL, HAST, thermal/humidity, temperature cycling) and failure analysis tools (SEM, FIB, X‑ray, spectroscopy).
- Experience leading supplier qualification, audits, and defining supplier quality metrics.
- Effective written and verbal communication with ability to influence cross-functional and supplier teams.
- Experience in fast-paced, high-tech environments serving telecom/datacom markets.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in integrated photonics packaging and optical-electrical co-design.
- Familiarity with wafer-level reliability testing and optical wafer probing.
- Prior engagements with Tier-1 datacenter customers or hyperscalers.
Education Requirements
M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field is listed as preferred; equivalent practical experience in photonics reliability engineering is explicitly accepted.
