Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for ensuring product reliability and qualification:
- Drive reliability execution for silicon photonics ICs, lasers (DFB, CW), and optoelectronic SiPs used in high-speed optical networks.
- Define and execute qualification plans aligned with Telcordia/GR-468, JEDEC, and other relevant standards.
- Conduct accelerated life testing (ALT), failure analysis, degradation modeling, and root-cause investigations.
- Provide early reliability input to R&D and design engineering throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Lead supplier qualification activities, implement supplier quality metrics, and support supplier audits.
- Support incoming component validation and transfer of products to production.
- Develop and maintain Design for Reliability (DfR) methodologies, predictive models, and statistical analysis approaches.
- Prepare, present, and document technical reviews, reliability reports, and risk assessments for internal and customer-facing engagements.
Requirements
Summary of required and preferred skills and experience.
Must-have:
- Practical experience in photonics device physics, photonics packaging, and failure mechanisms.
- Proven experience supporting NPI programs and product qualification from concept through volume production.
- Knowledge of relevant standards (GR-468, Telcordia, JEDEC, MIL-STD).
- Proficiency with reliability modeling and statistical analysis (Weibull, Arrhenius) and tools such as JMP or Minitab.
- Hands-on experience with reliability test systems (HTOL, HAST, T/H, TC) and failure analysis tools (SEM, FIB, X-ray, spectroscopy).
- Experience leading supplier qualification and performing supplier audits.
- Effective written and verbal communication to influence cross-functional and supplier teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in integrated photonics packaging and optical + electrical co-design.
- Familiarity with wafer-level reliability and optical wafer probing.
- Prior experience engaging Tier-1 datacenter customers or hyperscalers.
Education Requirements
M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field is listed; the posting also accepts equivalent practical experience in photonics reliability engineering.
