Job Title

Product Engineering Lead

Role Summary

Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) and production ramp activities for high-speed optical interconnect products (including Co-Packaged Optics and pluggable optics) from engineering prototypes through manufacturing release and volume production.

Work cross-functionally with design, packaging, test, reliability, quality, operations and suppliers to ensure manufacturable, scalable, and repeatable production processes that meet yield, quality, cost, and schedule targets. Benefits include base salary, equity, annual bonus, and medical insurance.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. The posting requests 10+ years of relevant experience in product engineering, NPI, manufacturing, test, quality, or production ramp for semiconductor, photonics, optical module, or high-speed interconnect products.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities focus on driving manufacturing readiness, qualification, yield, and ramp execution for optical interconnect products.

  • Own end-to-end NPI execution from prototypes through qualification, manufacturing release, and volume ramp.
  • Define and manage production test, characterization, qualification plans, release criteria, and ramp milestones across EVT/DVT/PVT and mass production.
  • Drive manufacturing readiness for CPO and pluggable optics: process flows, assembly methods, tooling, test coverage, and supplier readiness.
  • Translate product requirements into manufacturable processes for optical coupling, packaging, calibration, burn-in, final test, and outgoing quality control.
  • Lead cross-functional readiness reviews and coordinate corrective actions to close gaps before production release.
  • Analyze electrical, optical, packaging, and assembly data to identify dominant failure modes and lead yield-improvement efforts.
  • Lead structured root-cause analysis and corrective-action closure for production excursions, qualification failures, and reliability issues.
  • Establish dashboards and reports to monitor test coverage, parametric distributions, yield trends, reliability, and ramp health.
  • Partner with OSATs, module manufacturers, component suppliers, and internal manufacturing sites to align capability, quality, traceability, and ramp capacity.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience for successful performance in the role.

  • 10+ years of product engineering, NPI, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, quality engineering, or production ramp experience in semiconductors, photonics, optical modules, or high-speed interconnects.
  • Proven ownership of NPI programs from prototype builds through qualification and volume production ramp.
  • Deep knowledge of optical interconnect products: transceivers, silicon photonics, PICs, lasers, modulators, detectors, optical engines, coupling, packaging, and module assembly.
  • Experience with high-speed optical and electrical test methodologies, production test development, calibration, test correlation, and data analysis.
  • Hands-on familiarity with BER testers, oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, optical power meters, network analyzers, thermal chambers, and automated test systems.
  • Experience developing qualification and reliability plans (environmental, mechanical, optical, electrical, lifetime stress testing).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze yield data, lead root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions across design, process, test, assembly, and suppliers.
  • Experience working with OSATs, contract manufacturers, component suppliers, foundries, or global manufacturing sites.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership, stakeholder influence, and clear technical communication skills.
  • Self-directed, structured, detail-oriented, and effective in fast-moving, ambiguous product-development environments.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Optical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
