Product Development Test Engineer, Staff (Automotive)
Role Summary
Responsible for improving yield and device performance of automotive SoCs during production ramp and high-volume manufacturing. Works within Hardware Engineering / Product & Test Engineering to debug test programs, validate test equipment, and drive yield improvements across foundry, assembly and test partners.
Experience Level
Senior level. Role expects experienced engineers (typical hands-on ATE/test experience 6+ years) with leadership of cross-functional debug and yield resolution activities.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include production ramp support, test development, and cross-organizational collaboration.
- Analyze yield, process, diagnostic, and test data to identify root causes and drive baseline yield improvements.
- Support lot disposition, provide yield outlooks, and report impacts to product planning and cost analysis.
- Validate and debug test programs, probe cards, load boards and tester setups for release into mass production.
- Work with wafer foundries, assembly/test houses and internal PTE teams to isolate defects and operational issues.
- Lead task forces and coordinate cross-functional teams to resolve yield excursions and production issues.
- Interface with suppliers and test houses on process qualification and tester/performance validation across process and operating conditions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes followed by preferred experience.
- 6+ years experience with ATE test platforms; familiarity with Advantest 93K required.
- Solid understanding of VLSI test techniques and semiconductor test methodologies.
- Basic knowledge of digital and analog functional blocks and electronic circuits.
- Practical data analysis skills to interpret test and yield data.
- Strong English communication skills, proactive attitude, ability to handle new challenges.
- Ability to collaborate with external foundries, assembly and test houses and manage vendor interactions.
- Nice-to-have: design-for-test/DFM/DOE knowledge, reliability/quality concepts, foundry and failure-analysis familiarity, experience with yield management software (e.g. O+ or exensio), understanding of test-house supply chain and KPIs, automotive experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field plus 4+ years hardware-engineering experience; OR Master's degree in the same fields plus 3+ years experience; OR PhD in the same fields plus 2+ years experience.
