Product Development Engineer (Electrical)
Role Summary
Work in the System Engineering group (Engineering Technology) to conceptualize, develop, test and validate devices used in chemical analysis equipment. The role spans microfluidic dispensing to spectrophotometric measurements and requires cross-disciplinary collaboration with mechanical, electrical and software teams and with external vendors.
This role focuses on requirements definition, gap analysis, conceptual design, prototype testing, and reporting to advance KLA's chemical analysis product lines.
Experience Level
Entry-level. Hiring profile: Master's degree with 0 years related work experience, or Bachelor's degree with approximately 2 years of related work experience.
Responsibilities
Core day-to-day responsibilities include designing, testing and validating devices and supporting their lifecycle from development through manufacturing and field deployment.
- Define requirements and specifications with Applications, R&D and engineering teams for chemical analysis processes and devices.
- Create and execute improvement and test plans; drive vendors to meet deliverables.
- Evaluate materials and validate compatibility with application chemistries.
- Conceptualize new device designs when existing technologies are not suitable; define gaps, error budgets and constraints.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software engineers to review designs and troubleshoot subsystems.
- Perform data analysis and report conclusions from test campaigns.
- Support customers and manufacturing in implementing and optimizing tools; lead advanced troubleshooting in manufacturing and field environments.
- Occasional domestic and international travel required (under 20%).
Requirements
Must-have technical capabilities and workplace skills; items listed as "nice-to-have" are not required but will strengthen a candidate's application.
- Must-have: System-level electrical/mechatronic debugging and integration experience; ability to build and execute test plans and analyze results.
- Must-have: Experience supporting products through manufacturing and field lifecycle and creating clear, usable documentation.
- Must-have: Strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-disciplinary work and vendor engagement.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with PCB/Electrical design tools (OrCAD, Altium, PADS, Eagle) and SI/PI or simulation tools.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with AC power distribution, industrial cabling, interlocks, PLC/control systems, motion control and sensors.
- Nice-to-have: Programming or analysis experience (MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW).
