Product Development Engineer
AlteraJob Title
Product Development Engineer
Role Summary
Work on post-silicon testability, manufacturability and production ramp of integrated circuits. Collaborate with design, process, fab, assembly, quality, reliability and manufacturing teams to enable high-volume manufacturing (HVM) and ensure product readiness.
Experience Level
Mid-level (typical 3β7 years of relevant experience)
Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on test development, validation, and production readiness for new products.
- Develop and validate testability circuits, test flows and methodologies from feasibility through production ramp.
- Evaluate and debug designs on automatic test equipment (ATE); develop and maintain ATE test programs.
- Perform ATE device characterization and use data to help define datasheet limits and yield targets.
- Collaborate with designers to drive design-for-test/debug/manufacturing (DFT/DFD/DFM) features.
- Create, debug and maintain software and hardware solutions for validation and production test systems.
- Analyze yield, bin-split and fallout data to optimize test time, cost, and downstream yield.
- Lead manufacturing readiness activities: engineering samples, wafer start planning, qualification strategy, and site certification.
- Work with fab, assembly, and test factory partners to resolve product/process issues and support production ramp.
- Investigate early customer returns and drive closure of test holes and reliability issues.
- Contribute to new product introduction execution and factory task forces as required.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills required to perform this role.
- Experience in semiconductor test development, product engineering, or manufacturing test environments (ATE-focused).
- Familiarity with ATE platforms and test program development for production use.
- Strong analytical, debugging and data-analysis skills applied to yield and test optimization.
- Ability to develop and debug software for test equipment and convert validation vectors for ATE.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills; experience collaborating across design, fab and manufacturing teams.
- Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with DFT/DFM/DFD practices, yield analysis tools, and production test hardware design.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
