Principal VLSI Engineer

Role Summary

Lead technical design and delivery of complex VLSI components and hardware systems for HPE products. Provide architecture, design verification, and physical implementation oversight across multiple projects and platforms while mentoring engineers and influencing strategic technical decisions.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 10+ years of relevant VLSI design and engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for architecture, design leadership, and technical direction across VLSI projects.

• Define organization-wide VLSI architectures, methodologies, and standards across platforms.
• Lead technical decisions that affect product strategy, time-to-market, and cost efficiency.
• Review and evaluate VLSI designs and project activities for compliance with technical guidelines.
• Provide technical leadership and accountability for multiple project teams and external partners.
• Identify emerging VLSI technologies and drive proposals for new projects and programs.
• Mentor and guide less experienced engineers and contribute to selection/development of technical leaders.

Requirements

• Must-have: Leadership experience in VLSI or hardware engineering; mastery of digital logic and computer architecture.
• Proven ability to design complex VLSI components, integrated circuits, architectures and related algorithms.
• Strong programming and scripting skills; experience with hardware description languages and EDA and/or FPGA tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and strong written/verbal communication in English.
• Proven record of innovation (patents, publications, or technical presentations).
• Nice-to-have: Experience influencing executive leadership, participating in industry standards groups, and coordinating with outsourced development partners.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related technical field; coursework in VLSI design noted. The posting also allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree.
