Job Title

Principal Test Development Engineer

Role Summary

Lead test strategy and test architecture for high-precision MEMS inertial sensors (accelerometers, gyroscopes, 6‑DOF IMUs) supporting healthcare, industrial, automotive, and defense products. Collaborate with design, product, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to develop scalable test fixtures, hardware, software, and qualification plans.

Position based in Wilmington, MA; contributes to new product development and qualification activities across multiple sites.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires 10+ years of relevant test engineering or related experience, including leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing test hardware, software, and processes for device test, calibration, characterization, and qualification.

  • Design and build test fixtures, hardware and printed circuit boards to support device test and calibration.
  • Develop test and calibration software using .NET, NI LabVIEW/TestStand, C#, or similar tools.
  • Utilize custom test systems and industry-standard ATEs for device characterization and qualification.
  • Define test and calibration requirements with design, product, applications, and marketing teams.
  • Participate in new product development teams and evaluate new test systems for scalability and future applications.
  • Manage and maintain project schedules aligned with product introduction and release dates.
  • Collaborate with multi-site, cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Support qualification testing and maintain/improve quality-system processes.
  • Travel up to 10% as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and leadership capabilities. Preferred items are noted.

  • Proven ability to develop comprehensive test strategies and diagnostic programs that validate product functionality while optimizing coverage, time, and cost.
  • Expertise in creating and executing advanced diagnostic and diagnostic programs to identify complex defects and performance issues.
  • Experience designing and developing complex test fixtures and equipment that measure product parameters under varied conditions.
  • Strong resource management skills for directing testing activities across multiple projects and optimizing schedules/equipment allocation.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and problem-solving ability on systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and experience implementing testing processes that meet or exceed requirements.
  • Software development experience, including object-oriented programming.
  • Advanced PCB design experience for test setups and evaluation purposes.
  • Preferred: experience with MEMS/inertial sensors and strong electrical/embedded systems knowledge.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
