Job Title

Principal Test Design Staff Engineer - Networking

Role Summary

The Principal Test Design Staff Engineer will lead test strategy and production test delivery for NVIDIA's networking portfolio (NICs, SmartNICs/DPUs, NVLink systems, Ethernet switches). This role connects Test Design Engineering (TDE) with engineering and manufacturing teams to shape test architecture, coverage, and deployment at contract manufacturing sites.

This position partners with platform and diagnostics teams, drives cross-team technical coordination, and ensures test solutions meet engineering and manufacturing requirements.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 15+ years of product engineering or production operations experience, including technical leadership.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining test architecture, coordinating delivery, and integrating production test capabilities into manufacturing workflows.

  • Develop production tests for platforms combining networking ASICs, microcontrollers, and other components.
  • Define test architecture, coverage, and failure diagnosis strategies for complex hardware platforms.
  • Incorporate security requirements into test methods and workflows in collaboration with security teams.
  • Coordinate technical decisions, priorities, and dependencies across engineering and operations teams to align TDE roadmap with platform development.
  • Collaborate with CPU and GPU test diagnostics teams to reuse software, components, and test flows across system test levels.
  • Participate in new platform projects from planning through production test deployment.
  • Evaluate and adapt existing test capabilities to reduce duplicate development and shorten production timelines.
  • Represent TDE in technical reviews and planning sessions; provide information and support to resolve issues across locations and time zones.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills for immediate contribution.

  • 15+ years in product engineering with technical leadership in production operations for PCs, servers, or networking devices.
  • Hands-on experience developing software and production test solutions for multi-component hardware platforms.
  • Experience defining test strategies that balance coverage, reliability, test time, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Direct experience working with contract manufacturers (CMs), joint design manufacturers (JDMs), or original design manufacturers (ODMs).
  • Experience writing statements of work, developing test plans, and coordinating test release deployment at manufacturing sites.
  • Track record of guiding technical decisions and coordinating delivery across distributed engineering and operations teams.
  • Strong communication skills: explain technical tradeoffs and build agreement across teams and time zones.
  • Background in production testing and validation of servers, PC reference validation platforms, or similar systems.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience aligning or reusing diagnostics and test flows across CPU/GPU test teams and system test levels.
  • Practical experience incorporating security requirements into manufacturing test workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience.
