Micron TechnologyJob Title
Principal Technical Product Manager
Role Summary
Owner of technical requirements for assigned data-center SSD products, features, or customer programs within Micron's Core Data Center Business Unit. Acts as the primary technical contact between customers and internal teams (engineering, operations, media architecture, validation) to translate customer needs into clear SSD specifications.
Independent contributor working cross-functionally to influence product trade-offs, define solutions, and support product lifecycle planning and customer engagements.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Principal). The posting requests 3+ years of combined engineering, product development, applications, or customer-facing experience in storage and/or semiconductors; advanced domain depth or multi-domain working knowledge is expected.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining requirements, representing customer needs, and driving technical decisions for assigned SSD areas.
- Serve as the voice of the customer for an assigned product, feature set, or customer program and execute against the product plan.
- Create and maintain customer-driven requirements and contribute to launch materials, datasheets, and technical collateral.
- Perform spec gap and competitive analysis and recommend gap-closure approaches.
- Collaborate daily with engineering to evaluate issues, define solutions, and inform development trade-offs.
- Track SSD market and technology trends and assess feasibility and business viability for feature adoption.
- Build and maintain technical relationships with customer engineering teams and present material in reviews and customer engagements.
- Support product lifecycle management, stage gate reviews, and keep product data accurate in PLM and requirements tools.
- Plan and run small projects or workstreams end-to-end (feature definition, competitive analysis, customer technical issues).
- Apply LLM-based and other AI tools to scale and automate requirements analysis, documentation, and program comparison.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Advanced knowledge in one SSD domain or solid working knowledge across several: NVMe, NAND, ASIC, DRAM, firmware, validation, servers/GPUs, networking, QoS.
- Experience writing or contributing to requirements, specifications, or test plans that translate customer or system needs into clearly defined features.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable working through ambiguity and making trade-off recommendations.
- Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain complex technical topics to engineers and non-specialists.
- Working business acumen: understanding cost, schedule, and market timing impacts on product decisions.
- Experience with cross-functional teams and working across multiple locations and organizational boundaries.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Solid state drive and/or hard disk drive product experience required.
- Preferred: customer-facing technical experience with OEMs, hyperscalers, or enterprise storage customers; familiarity with NVMe/PCIe/OCP specs; exposure to stage gates, qualification, or PLM processes.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in engineering or a technical field is required. An MS or PhD in a relevant field may offset some of the experience requirement. The posting also allows equivalent combined practical experience; specifically it requests 3+ years of combined engineering, product development, applications, or customer-facing experience in storage and/or semiconductors.
