Role Summary

The Principal Tape Out Engineer is the final checkpoint before integrated circuit designs are released for fabrication. This role verifies that physical and logical design data meet foundry and manufacturing requirements, coordinates tape-out activities, and works with design, program management, technologists, and manufacturing to resolve issues and optimize manufacturability.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include executing tape-out processes, validating design integrity, and maintaining records for process improvement.

• Coordinate and execute the tape-out process, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of design data to manufacturing.
• Verify design integrity by reviewing databases and documentation; identify and address discrepancies or errors.
• Work cross-functionally with design, technologists, program managers, and process engineering to resolve technical issues and optimize designs for manufacturability.
• Ensure all deliverables conform to foundry and manufacturing requirements.
• Maintain detailed records of tape-out procedures, revisions, and outcomes for traceability and process improvement.

• Experience with physical design tools and flows (examples: Cadence, Synopsys) and familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing workflows.
• Strong attention to detail and proven ability to verify complex design data and documentation.
• Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines during critical tape-outs.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional technical teams and process engineering.
• Willingness to work flexible hours to support critical tape-outs.
• Effective communication skills in English for cross-team collaboration.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
