Job Title
Principal Systems Architect
Role Summary
Join Arm Central Technology Systems as a systems and machine learning architect focused on Physical AI for automotive and robotics. The role defines SoC and system architectures and technology roadmaps and works across AI/ML modeling, hardware modeling, simulation and software.
Working in small, technical teams (UK and US), you will assess compute performance and power requirements for multi-modal sensor-to-actuator systems and influence SoC architecture and design decisions. The position is preferred to be based in Austin, TX.
Experience Level
Senior β requires at least 5 years of relevant software industry experience and at least 2 years in automotive autonomy or robotics system architecture and/or AI/ML development.
Responsibilities
Deliver system-level architecture, performance and power analysis, and collaborate across SoC and IP teams.
- Synthesize diverse requirements and dimension optimized system solutions using representative inference models and software workloads.
- Define compute requirements with emphasis on performance and power for multi-modal sensor-to-actuator systems.
- Develop and maintain model zoos for automotive autonomy and robotics applications.
- Produce performance and power analysis reports based on measurements of existing and emerging systems.
- Collaborate with SoC architects, system designers, IP and analysis teams; engage AI/ML, hardware modeling, simulation and software specialists.
- Explore and propose architectural techniques to optimize SoC features, algorithms, and neural networks.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- At least five years of relevant software industry experience and experience in automotive autonomy or robotics system architecture or AI/ML development.
- Experience designing and architecting classical and AI/ML/RL algorithms and networks on contemporary high-performance systems.
- Understanding of GPU and NPU functional architectures and their effects on performance and power.
- Solid knowledge of computer architecture concepts (cache hierarchy, memory access efficiency, parallel architectures).
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to work both independently and in teams; strong initiative and problem-solving ability.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with MLPs, CNNs, DNNs and transformer architectures for automotive and robotics perception.
- Sensor preprocessing experience using GPGPU or other hardware accelerators.
- GPU/NPU architecture performance and power analysis for automotive or robotics SoCs.
- Experience with functional safety standards (ISO26262) and safety-critical systems.
- Experience addressing hardware architecture challenges (clocking, reset, interconnects, power, thermal).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent practical experience) in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, robotics, data analytics or a related technical field. Master's degree preferred.
