Principal System Architect
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Principal System Architect
Role Summary
The Principal System Architect is a senior individual contributor in the DRAM System and Component Architecture organization responsible for defining future DRAM product architecture and enabling prototypes through production release.
The role translates memory technology roadmaps, customer requirements, JEDEC standards, ecosystem developments, and market trends into system requirements, architecture, prototypes, validation evidence, and manufacturing release for systems and modules using new memory technologies and high-speed mixed-signal electronics.
Experience Level
Senior. Experience guidance: typically 15+ years with a Bachelor's degree, or 10+ years with a Master's degree, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
Primary technical responsibilities and ownership from concept through manufacturing readiness.
- Define and refine future customer memory needs; derive measurable system-level requirements, operating envelopes, interfaces, margins, and acceptance criteria across electrical, mechanical, thermal, SI/PI, and reliability domains.
- Lead architecture pathfinding with customers, ecosystem partners, and internal enablers; own trade-offs and interface decisions.
- Architect, design, bring up, characterize, debug, validate, and release complex memory module prototypes and platforms.
- Lead hands-on prototype bring-up and supervise verification, validation, margin testing, qualification, failure analysis, and evidence collection for release; apply FMEA, MTBF/reliability prediction, derating, tolerance analysis, and accelerated-life testing as needed.
- Support NPI and manufacturing transfer activities: certification, supplier engagement, pilot builds, test coverage, yield improvement, and engineering change control.
- Improve architecture, design, simulation, prototype, validation, and release processes to increase first-pass success, speed, traceability, and quality.
- Use AI tools where applicable to assist analysis, architecture exploration, or simulation workflows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and domain experience; preferred items are noted separately.
- Must-have: Proven experience architecting, developing, validating, and shipping memory, storage, compute, networking, or other high-speed electronic systems.
- Must-have: Deep practical experience in at least some of these system areas and working proficiency across others: electrical/power, mechanical, thermal, signal integrity, power integrity, and long-term reliability.
- Must-have: Track record of technical ownership across cross-functional teams and demonstrated ability to drive technical decisions without relying solely on positional authority.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with memory and storage subsystems (DDR, PCIe).
- Nice-to-have: Proficiency with ECAD/MCAD and lifecycle tools such as Cadence OrCAD CIS, Allegro PCB/Allegro SI, SolidWorks, and PLM systems or comparable toolsets.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a closely related field, or Master's degree; the posting also allows equivalent practical experience. (Minimum-qualification framing: typically 15+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 10+ years with a Master's degree, or equivalent experience.)
