Principal / Staff Reliability Engineer – Statistics & Data Science
Role Summary
Senior reliability engineer responsible for analyzing reliability data, developing scalable analysis and automation tools, and applying statistics, data science, and software engineering to improve product quality and reliability across Micron product families.
The role serves as a technical expert and collaborates with cross-functional teams in engineering, manufacturing, test, and quality to identify risks and drive corrective actions.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5–10 years of industry experience in reliability engineering, applied statistics, data science, or software engineering.
Responsibilities
Lead analysis, tooling, and cross-functional work to detect and mitigate reliability risks.
- Lead reliability data analysis and evaluation at component, system, and product levels to identify risks and drive corrective actions.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance reliability and statistical analysis tools, platforms, and automated workflows using sound software engineering practices.
- Apply advanced statistics, data science, and AI/ML techniques to improve reliability evaluation, modeling, and engineering efficiency.
- Partner with Product Engineering, Process, Test, Fab, and Quality teams to influence manufacturing and test improvements.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and cross‑functional support in reliability, statistics, and data science.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred qualifications listed after must-haves.

Must-have: 5–10 years industry experience in reliability engineering, applied statistics, data science, or software engineering.

Must-have: Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, R, JMP scripting) and familiarity with statistical/analytical tools.

Must-have: Strong analytical problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.

Preferred: Experience developing engineering software tools, analysis platforms, or automation pipelines.

Preferred: Background in semiconductor or other complex manufacturing environments.

Preferred: Experience applying AI/ML techniques to engineering, reliability, or manufacturing challenges and familiarity with model lifecycle concepts or MLOps.

Preferred: Knowledge of modern software development practices (version control, testing, modular design) and experience mentoring or delivering technical training.
Education Requirements
Master's degree or PhD in Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field is required; PhD is preferred.
