Principal Specialist, Field Application Engineer — Taiwan
Role Summary
The Field Application Engineer (Principal Specialist) will support GlobalFoundries customers in Taiwan by driving technology demonstrations, securing design wins, and coordinating tapeout and silicon validation activities. The role sits within the Global Sales Organization and collaborates with product marketing, technology development, account management and Customer Engineering teams.
Primary mission: enable customer designs on GF technologies, close technical gaps that block design wins, and ensure successful tapeout and post-tapeout validation.
Experience Level
Senior — requires substantial semiconductor experience; posting requests a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities focus on pre- and post-design-win technical leadership and tapeout execution.
- Lead technology demonstrations and define design-win acquisition strategy.
- Develop customized technical presentations and proposals for customers.
- Represent strengths and limitations of GF technologies to customers and internal teams.
- Capture customer requirements and propose design solutions aligned with GF offerings.
- Identify gaps in GF service/technology portfolios and drive internal remediation.
- Coordinate with product marketing, design solutions, and technology teams to provide real-time customer feedback.
- Manage tapeout logistics and readiness (export control, IP declarations, frame tables, MPW/test-chip requirements).
- Resolve technical issues for tapeouts by engaging internal experts; support Customer Engineering on post-tapeout activities.
- Lead customer design reviews and mock tapeouts; coordinate silicon functionality verification and performance troubleshooting.
- Meet design win, tapeout, and MPW/test-chip objectives.
- Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements in all activities.
Requirements
Key technical and professional qualifications (must-haves first, followed by nice-to-have items).

Must-have: Minimum 6 years experience in semiconductor IC design, system design, or IC/system test; end-to-end experience from concept to silicon validation.

Must-have: Exposure to IC product design and IP; familiarity with design enablement flows and EDA/tools.

Must-have: Solid understanding of silicon processing and device physics; strong analytical and project-management skills.

Must-have: Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to interact with customers and sales teams.

Nice-to-have: Prior experience working within or closely with a foundry.

Education Requirements
