MicrosoftJob Title
Principal SOC Performance Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Lead performance verification for pre-silicon SoC designs within Microsoft's Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering (CSME) organization. Work with architecture, design, firmware and emulation teams to define verification strategy that ensures power, performance, quality and scalability for cloud hardware.
Experience Level
Senior - requires extensive verification leadership. Expected: 14+ years in pre-silicon SOC/subsystem/IP verification; 8+ years on CPU/Fabric/DDR/IO verification; 6+ years specifically in performance verification.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing and executing performance verification strategies and collaborating across disciplines.
- Own performance verification efforts for pre-silicon SoC components and align with architects, designers, firmware, and emulation.
- Analyze SoC architecture for power/performance tradeoffs and translate them into verification requirements.
- Create verification strategy, test plans, environments, tools, test generators, test benches, checkers and coverage metrics.
- Execute tests, correlate results with architecture, debug to root cause, and recommend fixes.
- Drive methodology and tooling improvements to find issues earlier and more reliably.
- Mentor and coach team members; collaborate with post-silicon validation, IP vendors, and tool providers.
Requirements
Must-have skills, experience and screening requirements.
- 14+ years of pre-silicon SoC, subsystem, or IP verification experience.
- 8+ years working on CPU, fabric, DDR or IO verification and 6+ years focused on performance verification.
- Demonstrated expertise in performance verification and one or more of: ARM architecture, CPU architecture, memory controller/PHY, DDR protocols, coherent/non-coherent fabric protocols, PCIe/CXL, ACE-lite or CHI.
- Experience with emulation and understanding of constraints and implications on performance verification.
- Working knowledge of C/C++ and verification tooling.
