Job Title

Principal / Senior Engineer, TCAD DRAM

Role Summary

Work in the DRAM Device Technology group to develop and apply physics-based TCAD simulations to model, analyze, and predict semiconductor device and process behavior for future memory products. The role supports technology development by providing quantitative insight into device performance, variability, and reliability.

Experience Level

Senior / Principal level. Hiring guidance in the posting indicates at least 2+ years of relevant semiconductor device simulation or technology development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include building and running TCAD simulations, interpreting results, and collaborating with development teams to guide technology decisions.

  • Develop and apply 2D/3D TCAD simulations for DRAM access devices, CMOS devices, diodes, and resistive elements.
  • Build device structures and define physical models (transport, recombination, traps, mobility, quantum effects, etc.).
  • Perform parametric studies and correlate simulation results with electrical characterization data.
  • Investigate effects of process variations, material properties, defects, and interface states on device behavior.
  • Propose and validate new TCAD methodologies, simulation flows, and calibration strategies.
  • Collaborate with device integration, process development, product engineering, and E-characterization teams to ensure simulation-to-silicon correlation.
  • Automate simulation workflows and data analysis using scripting and programming tools when needed.

Requirements

Key skills and experience expected for successful candidates.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with TCAD tools (e.g., Synopsys Sentaurus, Silvaco Atlas, or equivalent).
  • Must-have: Strong background in semiconductor device physics and numerical simulation methods.
  • Must-have: Experience performing parametric analyses and extracting physical insight from simulation results; experience correlating simulations with experimental data is valuable.
  • Must-have: Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Scripting or programming experience (Python, Tcl, C++, etc.) for simulation automation and data analysis.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of advanced physical modeling (trap effects, variability, reliability, quantum effects) and 3D device simulation.
  • Nice-to-have: Understanding of process integration and fabrication flows and experience handling large-scale simulation data.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience applying AI techniques for parameter extraction, model calibration, sensitivity analysis, or surrogate modeling.

Education Requirements

Preferred M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is acceptable according to the posting.
