Principal Senior Engineer, FPGA Design
Role Summary
Lead architecture and implementation of complex FPGA System-on-Chip (SoC) designs for space and high-reliability electronic systems. Provide technical leadership, design direction, and roadmap development within cross-functional engineering teams.
Sign-on bonus offered (posting references $20K; minimum $15K for external hires).
Experience Level
Senior β requires 8+ years of related experience (Master's or Ph.D. may substitute for experience as specified).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, integration, and leadership of FPGA/SoC projects:
- Architect and lead complex FPGA SoC designs using AMD (Xilinx) tools and IP.
- Develop FPGA digital IP, integrate embedded processors, interfaces, and system-level functions.
- Implement digital filters, image processing algorithms, and communication protocols for space and high-reliability applications.
- Apply innovative FPGA design techniques and advanced function implementation.
- Provide technical direction and roadmaps for future products and features.
- Work on R&D, proof-of-concept, and production programs in a fast-paced, cross-functional team.
- Maintain effective working relationships across departments and support program execution.
- Maintain a regular, predictable on-site schedule and perform other duties as required.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints; preferred items listed where applicable.

Must-have: US citizenship required.

Must-have: Expertise in VHDL, Verilog, and SystemVerilog for FPGA development.

Must-have: Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado/Vitis and Mentor ModelSim/QuestaSim.

Must-have: Digital system partitioning and advanced FPGA implementation experience; solid electronic circuit and systems background.

Must-have: Ability to derive and flow down requirements across system/subsystem/board levels; strong communication and presentation skills.

Must-have: Ability to work on-site three or more days per week in the primary work location; travel between campuses or sites as required.

Nice-to-have: Experience with OVM/UVM verification methodologies, high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet), and signal-processing/DSP techniques.

Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Mentor Graphics HyperLynx for SI analysis, cybersecurity topics, and space or military program experience.
Education Requirements
BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required, plus 8 or more years related experience. Master's or Ph.D. may substitute for up to two years of experience per degree. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
