Principal/Senior ASIC Application Engineer
Role Summary
Work on enterprise SSD development and validation across pre-silicon, post-silicon and production phases to ensure timely market delivery and field quality.
Partner cross-functionally with ASIC design, DV, firmware, validation and other engineering teams to integrate and qualify ASICs for SSD products.
Experience Level

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ASIC bring-up, firmware validation, test automation and lab-based debugging to drive products to production quality.
- Support ASIC bring-up and validation from pre-silicon to production releases.
- Collaborate with ASIC design, DV, firmware, validation and cross-site teams to resolve integration issues.
- Develop, validate and debug SoC firmware (ARM or ARC-based) for SSD systems.
- Create and run automated tests and tooling using C and Python for embedded SSD systems.
- Perform protocol and trace analysis for ONFI, NAND and PCIe; perform root-cause debugging.
- Operate lab equipment: JTAG debuggers, PCIe analyzers/exercisers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and related tools.
- Read and use board schematics for SSD drives and evaluation boards; set up and validate evaluation hardware.
- Communicate findings, document results and coordinate fixes to meet production and quality goals.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience; preferred items noted.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience with storage or mass storage systems.
- Hands-on experience with ONFI interface, NAND flash protocols and basic PHY concepts; strong trace and protocol debugging skills.
- Proven firmware design, validation and debugging experience on ARM or ARC SoCs.
- Strong C programming experience for embedded SSD systems; Python experience for automation preferred.
- Experience using lab tools: JTAG debuggers, PCIe analyzer/exerciser, logic analyzer, oscilloscope.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred: DDR PHY/CTL or PCIe protocol/PHY training.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
