Job Title

Principal RF Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead RFIC design work within the RF Semiconductors team to drive product development from concept through silicon bring-up and corrective iterations. The role is based in Limerick, Ireland and focuses on transistor-level RF block design, evaluation, and cross-functional technical leadership.

Acts as a senior technical resource and mentor, providing direction on ambiguous or high-impact technical challenges; travel up to 10% may be required.

Experience Level

Senior. The role typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience in RFIC or related analog/RF design environments.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on RFIC design and leading technical efforts across projects.

  • Transistor-level integrated circuit design for RF blocks.
  • Provide technical leadership on ambiguous or high-impact design challenges, defining approaches, tradeoffs, and success criteria.
  • Perform design evaluation and silicon bring-up, including first-silicon characterization, root-cause analysis, and driving corrective iterations.
  • Design and develop RF products across process and packaging technologies.
  • Develop and improve design methods, models, and workflows.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and communicate technical status and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers to develop technical skills and professional behaviors.

Requirements

Key technical skills and attributes required; items marked as "plus" are desirable but not mandatory.

  • Strong understanding of S-parameters, transmission line theory, and RF networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, simulate, and verify circuits at transistor and behavioral/architectural levels with strong RF fundamentals.
  • Experience with circuit design tools such as Cadence and ADS.
  • Proven technical judgment and ability to resolve complex problems through in-depth analysis.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, presentation skills, and ability to influence cross-functionally.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with EM simulators (EMPro, HFSS) and RF test equipment/characterization.

Education Requirements

M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering is stated as required, with a Ph.D. preferred; equivalent practical experience is acceptable. Relevant fields include Electrical Engineering, RF/analog design, or related technical disciplines.
