Job Title
Principal Product Test Development Engineer
Role Summary
Lead burn-in and product test development for semiconductor products on advanced technology nodes at GLOBALFOUNDRIES' Essex Junction/Burlington, VT campus. The role defines and delivers burn-in test software, hardware fixtures, and stress content used for product qualification and early-life reliability screening.
The position works cross-functionally with design, process integration, reliability, quality, failure analysis, and customer engineering teams and includes technical leadership and mentoring responsibilities.
Experience Level
Senior β requires significant industry experience: Bachelor's degree + more than 6 years' relevant experience, or Master's degree + more than 4 years' relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on burn-in engineering, test strategy, system configuration, and program execution for product qualification.
- Own burn-in engineering activities: part-number program development, hardware fixture design, silicon bring-up, debug, and validation.
- Develop, optimize, and sustain burn-in stress content for qualification and reliability screening to meet device coverage, throughput, and stress limits.
- Define and own burn-in test strategy with customers and internal stakeholders, balancing coverage, throughput, equipment efficiency, data quality, and cost.
- System engineering: configure and calibrate burn-in systems, generate and implement patterns, develop PNPs, and design/debug test structures.
- Execute burn-in programs and perform device debug analysis using instrumentation such as digital oscilloscopes.
- Manage first-silicon bring-up projects, coordinate hardware vendors and offshore stress execution, and control part-number program releases and revisions.
- Produce and maintain operational procedures and comprehensive hardware and program documentation.
- Collaborate across functions (design, process, reliability, QA, FA, customer engineering) and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.
Requirements
Technical skills and experience required for satisfactory performance in this role.
- Fundamental understanding of circuit design and electrical test, and how electrical characteristics affect product behavior.
- Knowledge of semiconductor processing, process integration, and use of test chips/test structures for yield and reliability analysis.
- Experience with burn-in systems and related hardware.
- Scripting skills in Perl and/or Python for test automation and analysis.
- Familiarity with JTAG and SPI interfaces and logic test concepts (scan, ATPG).
- Design-for-Test knowledge for Logic, Memory, and Analog test methodologies.
- Experience with test program execution, device debug, and use of lab instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes).
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Circuit Design, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field with more than 6 years' related experience; or a Master's degree with more than 4 years' related experience. (No alternative-equivalent wording provided in the source.)
