Job Title

Principal Product Modelling Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and advance semiconductor device models for next-generation power semiconductor technologies within the Device Modelling team in Manchester. Work with Device Engineering, Technology Development, Design, Characterization and Reliability teams to improve prediction and optimization of device performance.

Experience Level

Senior - principal-level engineering role requiring extensive hands-on experience in device modelling, simulation and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain advanced device and compact models for power MOSFETs and emerging power semiconductor technologies.
  • Build compact models using silicon characterization and simulation data.
  • Perform electrical, thermal and reliability simulations and correlate with measured data.
  • Drive model calibration, validation and correlation against experimental results.
  • Support new process generations and device architectures through modelling.
  • Analyse device performance, switching behaviour and loss mechanisms to support design decisions.
  • Contribute to modelling flows, automation frameworks and best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on modelling projects.
  • Present technical findings to stakeholders and contribute to publications, patents and conferences where appropriate.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience in semiconductor device modelling and simulation.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and power semiconductor technologies.
  • Experience in compact model development and parameter extraction methodologies.
  • Programming and data-analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Experience correlating simulation results with experimental characterization data and performing model validation.
  • Knowledge of system-level simulation techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary R&D teams and provide technical leadership.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with power semiconductor devices (primarily Silicon); experience with SiC and GaN is valuable.
  • Knowledge of reliability modelling and semiconductor failure mechanisms.
  • Experience supporting technology development or process integration projects.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DoE) and model optimisation techniques.
  • Track record of publications, patents, or conference presentations.

Education Requirements
