Principal Product Engineer
Role Summary
Product Engineer on the Cadence Digital and Signoff Group (DSG) team supporting place-and-route and timing-closure tools and flows. Provide technical place-and-route and timing expertise to customers and R&D, run benchmarks, and develop solutions for advanced process nodes.
Experience Level
Senior-level - typically 5+ years with an MS in Electrical Engineering or 8+ years with a BS in Electrical Engineering in digital implementation.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include supporting product quality, resolving customer issues, and developing production flows and benchmarks.
- Support Cadence DSG products and customer engagements as a technical expert in place-and-route and timing closure.
- Track, reproduce, and debug customer issues; coordinate with R&D and release teams to drive resolution.
- Run design benchmarks, develop and validate flows, and propose PPA and timing optimizations.
- Provide analysis, documentation, and recommendations to improve product behavior and usability.
- Communicate results clearly to customers and internal teams; assist in knowledge transfer and training.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for the role.
- Deep understanding of VLSI physical design and timing analysis, including RTL synthesis, placement optimization, clock tree synthesis, routing optimization, and silicon signoff.
- Hands-on experience with timing closure and PPA optimization at 16nm and below process nodes.
- Experience using industry-standard EDA tools for synthesis, physical design, and signoff.
- Familiarity with hierarchical design methodologies and low-power design techniques.
- Strong analysis and debugging skills with a track record of solving complex implementation issues.
- Automation skills using Perl, Tcl, and shell scripting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to work with customers and cross-functional R&D teams.
- Energetic team player with a passion for problem solving.
Education Requirements
MS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in digital implementation, or BS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of experience in digital implementation.
