Principal Performance Modeling Engineer
Role Summary
Lead performance architecture, modeling and analysis for high-performance GPU SoCs and data center systems focused on cloud computing and machine learning acceleration.
Work on microarchitecture exploration, performance and power optimization, workload characterization, and system-level performance solutions with design engineering teams.
Experience Level
Senior / Principal level. This role expects substantial prior experience in processor or system performance architecture and modeling.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Act as a Performance Architect on the design engineering team for GPU SoCs and data center systems.
- Perform microarchitecture exploration and build/analyze performance models.
- Conduct micro-benchmarking, workload characterization and competitive analysis to identify bottlenecks.
- Propose, communicate and implement performance and power optimization solutions at processor and system levels.
- Develop tools, methodologies, and automation for workload and performance analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to validate and deploy architectural changes.
Requirements
Key skills and expectations (must-have vs nice-to-have):
- Must-have: Deep experience with GPU, CPU or computer system microarchitecture and system-level performance analysis.
- Must-have: Proven experience developing and using computer system performance models and performing workload analysis and micro-benchmarking.
- Must-have: Strong programming skills, including C++ and Python (or similar), for tooling and model implementation.
- Must-have: Experience identifying bottlenecks, performing competitive analysis, and implementing optimizations across hardware and system stacks.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with data center systems, cloud computing stacks, and machine learning workload characterization.
- This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship; candidates must have appropriate work authorization.
Education Requirements
Minimums expressed as degree plus experience: PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field + 5 years experience; MS in those fields + 8 years experience; Bachelor's + 12 years relevant experience. Acceptable degrees: Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or closely related fields. Master's or PhD with emphasis on computer-architecture performance studies is preferred.
