Principal or Senior HIG-HBM Systems Engineer

Role Summary

Work on system-level validation, failure analysis, characterization, and customer integration for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products. The role supports customers and memory enablers (e.g., GPU manufacturers) to achieve product qualifications and build wins.

Collaborate with HBM specialists, Product Engineering, FAE, Quality Assurance, RMAs, and business teams to reproduce failures, run experiments, and deliver technical results to customers and internal stakeholders.

Experience Level

Senior / Principal level. Guidance: typically 2–4+ years of relevant hardware/software validation or equivalent professional experience; this is a senior engineering role focused on customer systems validation.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system validation, experimentation, and customer support at both Micron and customer sites.

  • Plan and execute system-level validation, failure analysis, and characterization experiments.
  • Run and configure diagnostic software, build experiments, analyze data, and develop custom hardware/software tools.
  • Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, multimeters) to capture and diagnose issues.
  • Provide technical integration and troubleshooting support at customer locations and to field sales/FAE teams.
  • Reproduce original failures using diagnostics and collaborate on RMA and 8D/failure documentation.
  • Develop or modify hardware to control test parameters (temperature, voltage) and communicate results to multifunction teams and customers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and capabilities; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Balanced hardware and software skills; comfortable programming on Linux using Python and C/C++.
  • Must-have: Experience with version control systems (git, svn) and data analysis/presentation skills.
  • Must-have: Practical experience using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, soldering tools) for debugging and validation.
  • Must-have: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Must-have: Basic understanding of DRAM operations and computer networking.
  • Nice-to-have: BIOS or Linux driver development and debug experience.
  • Nice-to-have: Deeper understanding of system architecture and memory subsystems; prior experience validating products with hardware/firmware/software components.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or an equivalent technical field, or equivalent practical experience. (Source lists Bachelor's or Master's in ECE or equivalent field with associated experience guidance.)
