Job Title
Principal NPI Product Engineer
Role Summary
Lead new product introduction (NPI) programs for high-performance optical and analog/mixed-signal ICs from early silicon through full production transfer. Work as the technical program owner across design, test, characterization, quality, and operations to ensure product conformance, manufacturability, and successful volume release.
Role operates in a hybrid model (4 days in office, Mon–Thu) at either Burlington, ON or Bristol, UK and requires close cross-functional coordination with foundry and OSAT partners.
Experience Level
Senior — expects 10+ years of experience in semiconductor product engineering, test engineering, or design engineering.
Responsibilities
Own NPI programs and technical delivery from silicon bring-up to production transfer. Key responsibilities include:
- Drive NPI programs: plan milestones, lead reviews, and manage logistics for product transfer to full-volume manufacturing.
- Define and enforce DfT and DfM requirements; collaborate with design and test teams on testability and manufacturability.
- Lead development and optimization of ATE test programs and ATE-to-bench correlation.
- Develop and execute wafer-level and bench characterization plans across PVT; analyze ATE and bench data.
- Set datasheet specifications and production test limits using statistical, data-driven methods.
- Perform yield modeling, DOE planning, and test-time reduction initiatives to improve yield and lower cost.
- Lead failure analysis, root-cause investigations, and CAPA activities for field returns and RMA cases.
- Coordinate with foundry, packaging, and OSAT teams to resolve manufacturing issues and support qualification.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- 10+ years in semiconductor product engineering, test engineering, or design engineering.
- Proven ownership of silicon bring-up, characterization, and production transfer programs.
- Hands-on experience with ATE test development, ATE-to-bench correlation, and production test limit setting.
- Strong foundation in Design for Testability (DfT) and Design for Manufacturability (DfM).
- Proficiency with statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Excel) and scripting/automation (Python, TCL, or equivalent).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
-
Nice-to-have: analog/mixed-signal or optical IC characterization experience (TIA, CDR, LimitAmp, high-speed SerDes).
- Familiarity with high-speed ATE platforms (Advantest, Teradyne) and JEDEC reliability qualification methods (HTOL, HAST, ESD, latch-up).
- Exposure to ATPG, MBIST, or boundary-scan DFT flows and experience engaging with foundry/OSAT partners.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required; MS is strongly preferred.
