Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Design and implement high-fidelity network simulations and analysis tools to evaluate NICs, switches, and emerging system architectures for VLSI/ASIC development. The role partners with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to quantify performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed designs.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 10+ years of relevant experience (principal-level engineering role).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building simulation models, running realistic network scenarios, and producing analysis that informs architecture and ASIC decisions.

  • Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs to drive realistic network scenarios and workloads.
  • Create tooling for performance analysis, data collection, and visualization.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault-tolerance of proposed architectures and trade-offs.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reproducible, reliable simulation results.
  • Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineering teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Nice-to-have items follow.

  • Must-have: 10+ years of experience in system- or network-level simulation and architectural analysis.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in simulation/modeling in C++ and analysis scripting in Python.
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture, system-level design, and the ability to analyze architectural trade-offs.
  • Proven experience building performance analysis and visualization tools.
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams with architects, ASIC engineers, and software developers.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with NIC or switch architectures, large-scale network simulation frameworks, or performance profiling at system scale.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with agile development practices and collaboration workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
