Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
Lead simulation development for network interface controllers (NICs), switches, and system-level architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Work on a distributed engineering team interfacing with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to validate and optimize future hardware/software co-designs.
Position is remote/teleworker and focuses on building reliable, high-fidelity simulation tools and analysis workflows that inform architectural trade-offs.
Experience Level
Senior (Principal) β 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architecture analysis, or related areas.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and executing simulation studies and producing actionable analysis.
- Design and implement simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
- Create simulation motifs and scenarios to reproduce realistic network traffic and failures.
- Develop tooling for performance analysis, visualization, and result reproducibility.
- Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and recommend optimizations.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation code.
- Collaborate with architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to translate requirements into simulation experiments.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- Extensive experience building simulation models and frameworks (C++ preferred).
- Proficiency in data analysis and scripting (Python) for metrics extraction and visualization.
- Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design, including NIC/switch behavior.
- Proven ability to analyze architectural trade-offs and recommend optimizations.
- Experience with performance, scalability, and fault-tolerance evaluation.
- Software engineering practices: version control, testing, and reproducible experiments.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results to stakeholders.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
