Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Develop and maintain simulation models and analysis tooling to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of NICs, switches and future system architectures. Work on system-level network simulation motifs and deliver actionable data to network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams.

This role is part of an engineering team focused on hardware and system architecture validation through simulation-driven studies.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical guidance: 10+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building and running simulation experiments, analyzing results, and collaborating across disciplines:

  • Design and implement simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Create simulation motifs and scenarios that produce realistic network workloads.
  • Develop tooling for performance analysis, data collection, and visualization.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance; quantify architectural trade-offs.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation code.
  • Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to guide design decisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills; followed by concise nice-to-have items.

  • Must-have: 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation or architecture evaluation.
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in simulation/modeling with C++ and analysis scripting in Python.
  • Must-have: Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and apply engineering best practices.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with NICs, switches, ASIC design flows, performance visualization tools, or mentoring/leading technical teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and data-driven design review processes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
