Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Develop and maintain system-level and detailed simulation models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures to inform hardware and software design decisions. Partner closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineering teams to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.

Senior — typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Design and implement simulation models and motifs to drive realistic network scenarios.
• Create tooling for performance analysis, visualization, and automated experiment runs.
• Evaluate performance, scalability, reliability, and fault-tolerance of proposed architectures.
• Perform architectural trade-off analysis and recommend optimizations.
• Apply software engineering best practices to ensure correctness, reproducibility, and efficiency of simulations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (network architects, ASIC designers, software engineers) to translate results into design requirements.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in network/system-level simulation, architecture analysis, or related engineering roles.
• Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
• Proficiency in C++ for simulation modeling and Python for data analysis and tooling.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
• Practical software engineering skills for building robust simulation frameworks and tools.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical findings.

Nice-to-have:

• ASIC/VLSI, NIC, or switch design experience.
• Experience developing performance visualization tools or large-scale simulation frameworks.
• Mentoring or technical leadership experience at the principal level.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
