Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Design and implement high-fidelity network simulation models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Work on simulation motifs, tooling for analysis and visualization, and deliver data-driven recommendations to architects and ASIC/software teams.

Experience Level

Senior (Principal) β€” typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building simulation infrastructure, running realistic network scenarios, and reporting findings to cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Develop and validate simulation models for NICs, switches, and system-level network architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs to exercise realistic traffic, failure, and scale scenarios.
  • Create tools and visualizations for performance analysis and result exploration.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and recommend trade-offs.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure simulations are reproducible, maintainable, and efficient.
  • Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to align simulation work with design goals.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of practical requirements.

  • 10+ years of professional experience in network/system simulation, architecture, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Proficient in C++ for simulation model development and Python for data analysis and tooling.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs, optimizations, and scalability limits.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams with architects, hardware, and software engineers.
  • Familiarity with performance visualization and metrics-driven evaluation.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
