Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
Design and implement simulation models and scenarios for NICs, switches, and future system architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Work on a cross-functional engineering team with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to inform architectural decisions.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Requires 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architecture analysis, or related engineering roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building and running realistic network simulations, analyzing results, and delivering actionable recommendations.
- Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
- Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios to represent realistic network workloads and failure modes.
- Create and maintain tools for performance analysis, data collection, and visualization.
- Measure and evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance; analyze architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, efficient, and reproducible simulation outcomes.
- Collaborate with network architects, ASIC/SoC designers, and software teams to validate designs and drive optimizations.
Requirements
The following are required skills and experience. Nice-to-have items are noted separately.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
-
Must-have: Proficiency in C++ for simulation modeling and Python for analysis and tooling.
-
Must-have: Proven ability to analyze architectural trade-offs and optimize system performance.
-
Must-have: Experience working effectively in cross-functional engineering teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with performance visualization tools, large-scale simulation frameworks, and agile development processes.
-
Nice-to-have: Prior technical leadership, mentoring, or principal/lead engineer responsibilities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
