Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Design and implement cycle-accurate and system-level simulation models for NICs, switches, and future server/network architectures to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. Work on tooling for performance analysis and visualization and collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to inform architecture decisions.

This is a senior technical role focused on simulation-driven architectural evaluation and optimization of networked systems.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 10+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system-level network architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios to drive realistic network workloads.
  • Create tools for performance analysis, data collection, and visualization.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance; quantify architectural trade-offs.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable simulation infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to guide design decisions.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architectural analysis, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in simulation/modeling with C++ and data analysis or scripting with Python.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design concepts.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering teams and communicate technical results.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience building performance visualization tools and automated simulation workflows.
  • Background in ASIC/SoC or NIC design flows and hardware-software co-design.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
