Job Title
Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI
Role Summary
Design and deliver high-fidelity simulation models and performance analysis for NICs, switches, and system-level network architectures. Provide data-driven evaluation of performance, scalability, and fault tolerance to inform ASIC and system design decisions.
Work on a cross-functional engineering team with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to prototype architectures and communicate results to technical stakeholders.
Experience Level
Senior level — Principal role. The posting specifies 10+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and future system architectures.
- Design and implement simulation motifs to drive realistic network scenarios and workloads.
- Create tools for performance analysis, data processing, and visualization.
- Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance; quantify architectural trade-offs.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, reproducible simulation results.
- Collaborate with network architects, ASIC designers, and software teams to validate designs and communicate findings.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
- Proven experience building simulation models and frameworks (production-grade C++ preferred).
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, scripting, and visualization.
- Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies for networked systems.
- Track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams and communicating technical results to stakeholders.
- Demonstrated software engineering practices: testing, version control, performance profiling, and automation.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with VLSI/ASIC design flows, NIC or switch microarchitecture, or system-level co-design.
- Familiarity with performance visualization tools and large-scale simulation platforms.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field — or equivalent practical experience.
