Principal Modeling Engineer, Field Applications
Role Summary
Technical lead responsible for building, validating, and deploying semiconductor models used in customer OPC flows. Works with Field Applications Engineering, R&D, and Product teams to ensure models match production silicon and meet customer tape-out schedules.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. Expectation: 8+ years of experience building, calibrating, or validating semiconductor device or lithography models.
Responsibilities
Deliver and support production-quality models and the workflows that validate them.
- Calibrate and validate semiconductor models against customer wafer data, test structures, and characterization results for advanced nodes.
- Create and maintain compact models used in OPC engagements, balancing accuracy and runtime.
- Debug complex modeling issues on-site with customers and Field Applications Engineers; resolve calibration, data quality, and deployment blockers.
- Build and maintain automated validation and regression systems to catch model quality issues early.
- Translate field requirements into product improvements and contribute to roadmap and prioritization.
- Provide technical training, benchmarks, and proof-of-concept support to customers and field teams.
- Document best practices and automate modeling workflows to increase team productivity.

Must-have
- 8+ years building, calibrating, or validating semiconductor device models in TCAD, SPICE, or lithography modeling contexts.
- Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics and how process choices affect model behavior and accuracy.
- Proven experience developing compact models and calibration methodologies that balance accuracy, runtime, and usability.
- Proven track record supporting customer-facing technical engagements and resolving deployment issues.
- Experience debugging real wafer/data-driven modeling problems and presenting technical findings to engineers and product leaders.
Nice-to-have
- Programming or scripting experience (Python, Tcl, Perl) for automation and workflow development.
- Experience applying machine learning techniques to modeling or characterization tasks.
Education Requirements
M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Semiconductor Engineering, or a closely related technical field (listed in the source).
