Job Title

Principal Mixed Signal Design Engineer

Role Summary

The Principal Mixed Signal Design Engineer will lead design and architecture for high-performance mixed-signal ICs used in automatic test equipment (ATE) and industrial measurement systems. The role focuses on high-speed analog and mixed-signal design, system-level chiplet integration, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, production-ready ICs.

Position is based in Wilmington, MA and participates in a development team responsible for advancing wireline transmit/receive architectures, equalization, and clock & data recovery for next-generation ATE products.

Experience Level

Senior β€” Principal-level. The posting requests 7+ years of relevant system design/architecture and integration experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on IC design, architectural leadership, and mentoring within a cross-disciplinary development team.

  • Lead design and architecture of complex mixed-signal systems to meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Design wireline transmitters and receivers; develop mixed-mode decision-feedback equalizers (DFE).
  • Design and implement clock & data recovery (CDR) circuits; collaborate on VCO/PLL designs.
  • Apply analog and digital wireline equalization techniques to improve signal integrity.
  • Design custom high-speed digital circuits and digitally-assisted high-speed analog blocks.
  • Develop system-level designs on chiplets and integrate designs across process technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (layout, verification, test, product) to integrate designs into larger systems.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and present technical results to stakeholders.
  • Support product development cycles and contribute to documentation and design reviews.
  • Travel as required for collaboration and customer engagement (approx. 10%).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for candidacy.

  • 7+ years of experience in system design/architecture engineering and design integration for high-speed mixed-signal ICs.
  • Proven experience in RF or high-speed CMOS and/or data converter design.
  • Expertise with FinFET nodes (e.g., 16nm, 5nm) or fine-line planar analog CMOS (e.g., 28nm) process technologies.
  • Proficiency in digitally-assisted high-speed analog design and wireline equalization (analog & digital).
  • Experience developing wireline transmitter/receiver architectures, DFE, and CDR circuits.
  • Strong analytical, technical communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex designs and mentor junior engineers.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with SW-defined CMOS communications or radar system design.
  • Project management experience and familiarity with rapidly changing technologies and methodologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred. Degrees in Electrical Engineering or closely related technical fields are expected.
