Job Title
Principal Microwave Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and lead development of GaN-based RF power amplifiers and RF modules from concept through qualification and production. Work as the technical lead on discrete transistor and module-based products, translating simulated designs into physical assemblies and coordinating verification testing and cross-functional execution.
Experience Level
Senior level β professional role requiring approximately 12+ years of relevant RF/microwave design experience.
Responsibilities
Technical leadership and hands-on design of RF power amplifier products and modules.
- Serve as technical lead for RF discrete transistor and module product development.
- Design PAs using linear and nonlinear models and 2.5D/3D EM simulators; generate physical assembly drawings from simulations.
- Develop PA reference designs for customer sampling and support product datasheet input.
- Manage product checkout, optimization, and design verification testing in the lab; analyze and present verification results.
- Support products across lifecycle stages: concept/feasibility, development, qualification, and production.
- Collaborate with marketing, program management, mechanical, package, test, manufacturing, reliability and applications engineering.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, hands-on lab capability, and eligibility to work with controlled technologies. Nice-to-have items listed separately.
-
Must-have: Extensive RF/microwave hands-on experience with GaN, HBT, or LDMOS technologies and deep knowledge of III-V semiconductor operation and application.
- Proficiency with design tools: Keysight ADS and Cadence-MWO; EM simulators such as AXIEM, Momentum, Analyst and HFSS.
- Experience with lab instruments and test methods: vector network analyzers, signal analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, and load-pull systems; able to operate lab testing with minimal oversight and ensure personnel/equipment safety.
- Ability to convert simulated designs into assembly drawings and manage product checkout and optimization.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to present technical results concisely and provide direction to lab technicians.
- Proven ability to meet technical requirements and schedules, multitask, and work in cross-functional teams.
-
Employment eligibility: Role requires access to ITAR/EAR technologies; applicant must be a US Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) or otherwise eligible for required export authorizations.
-
Nice-to-have: Prior MMIC design experience; experience implementing electrical designs in package platforms such as overmold, laminate, metal-base, and air-cavity; experience developing RF modules.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred, with emphasis in RF or Microwave technology. The posting specifies ~12+ years of experience associated with the role.
